Types Of Radiographs

When it comes to dental X-rays, there are a number of options Dr. Klein can order, and the type of X-ray needed will largely depend on the type of care the patient will be receiving.

The most common types include:

Bitewing
This technique involves having the patient bite down on a special piece of paper so that the dentist can see how well the crowns of your teeth match up. It offers a visual of both the lower and upper posterior teeth, and is often used to check for cavities.

Occlusal
This option is done when your jaw is closed and shows the dentist how your upper and bottom teeth line up, and also any abnormalities with the mouth floor or palate.

Panoramic
This technique involves having the machine rotate around your head to produce a view of the teeth, jaws, nasal area, sinuses, and the joints of the jaw. It’s often done to check your wisdom teeth, plan for implanted dental devices, or investigate jaw problems.

Periapical
Instead of focusing on the whole mouth, this option focuses on two complete teeth from root to crown.
